A question we hear on almost every Intended Parents consult call we do is simply: “why would someone donate their eggs?”. It is well known that egg donation in Canada is uncompensated; only expenses related to the donation can be reimbursed to an Egg Donor. Many Intended Parents, especially those who have undergone fertility treatments themselves, wonder why a woman would be willing to undergo these procedures for people they do not even know, without any compensation. It’s certainly a fair question – so we reached out to several of the Egg Donors in our program to ask them! Here’s what they had to say.

“My brother in law is gay, and I’m bisexual. I did end up with a male partner, but if I hadn’t, I would have needed gamete donation to start my own family. And my brother in law and his partner will need a donor and a surrogate if they want to have biological children. I wanted to help people like them have options! My first donation went pretty well, so I decided to do a second. I’m excited to help people have families!” – Fertility Match Egg Donor C

“I love my own children so, so much, they’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me! I had a hysterectomy a few years ago, but I wanted to help other people have babies. I considered surrogacy but with three young kids it just wasn’t in the cards right now. But egg donation has been perfect for me and my family – I just love being able to help people!” – Fertility Match Egg Donor S

“I am an oncology nurse. After working with individuals battling cancer for several years, I have realized that this is a gift of life that every person should have the opportunity to enjoy. Despite how much they might want it, it isn’t an option for everyone. I am young and have already created my family, so I wanted to give back and give someone the opportunity to have what I have.” – Fertility Match Egg Donor B

“I lost one of my good friends a few years ago, who was an only child. I have watched her parents struggle to conceive again for the last year or so, and I see how difficult and painful it is for them not to be able to. I know they are not the only ones, there are many others feeling this way. If I can make a difference in someone’s life, it would be the greatest gift of all for me. As per my philosophy on life, we are all brothers and sisters, and we should all help each other.” – Fertility Match Egg Donor E

There are so many reasons young women choose to donate eggs in Canada; these are only a few of the dozens of Egg Donors on our database. There is one constant; Egg Donors are kind and compassionate young women who want to make a difference and help someone build their family!
